Week 3: 9/12/16 - 9/16/169/19/2016 Wednesday: On Wednesday's class, all students completed the AR test for their grade level. This test lets teachers and EPs know a student's current level of reading and comprehension ability. The AR test took the majority of the class period. Due to some errors with login information, a few students were unable to test. These students will complete the test next week. HW from Wednesday's class: I gave a handout on the difference between "showing" and "telling" in writing. Students are to read over and familiarize themselves with these ideas. We will have a lesson on this topic next class. The handout is attached below Friday: On Friday's class, we began with a quickwrite assignment based on an image. Students were to write a description of the scenery in the image using the figurative language that we explored last week. Next, we went through a Powerpoint slideshow on "Showing vs. Telling" in writing. Students practiced with in-class examples. We then discussed the handout that was given out at our previous class meeting. HW from Friday's class: Due Wednesday - "Showing vs. Telling" Practice Assignment (attached below) Due Friday - "Descriptive Writing Assignment" (attached below). We will discuss some of the specifics of assignment further on Wednesday.
