This week, we continued with our science fiction unit and our argumentative essays.
On Wednesday, we looked into the subject of space tourism. While it was once relegated to the realm of science fiction, the idea of space tourism is gradually becoming a reality. We began with a video:
Afterward, the class wrote on and discussed the following questions:
-Would you go to space if you had the opportunity? How long would you want to stay?
-How do you think going to space might change you as a person?
-How long do you think it will take before space travel is accessible to people of average means?
-What do you think of these attempts to “democratize” (make accessible to all) space travel?
-Do you think going to space is the “destiny” of humankind?
After the discussion, we reviewed Works Cited pages for the argumentative essays.
There was no additional homework from this class. See the post from last week for the homework due Friday.
On Friday, I collected the homework for chapters 4-9 of War of the Worlds. Then, we had a peer critique session on the rough drafts of the argumentative essays.
Your Homework for next week (meeting week) is to complete the final draft of your argumentative essay and to read to page 104 in War of the Worlds.
