10/23/17 - 10/27/1710/27/2017 Students and Parents, This week, we covered the following: Tuesday: 1. We began class with a quickwrite. 2. Students turned in the final drafts of their Personal Narratives. 3. Students continued annotating the lyrics of their chosen song for the Song Lyrics Analysis project. Wednesday: 1. We began with a quickwrite. 2. I introduced students to the next step of the Lyric Analysis project, the SOAPSTONE worksheet (attached below and due 10/31). 3. Students continued working on the project from wherever they left off. Thursday: 1. I introduced the next portion of the of the Lyric Analysis project, the "Says - Means - Matters" chart. For this step, students will be selecting three important quotes from their chosen songs and explaining the meaning and importance of these quotes (attached below and due 10/31). 2. For homework, complete the two attached worksheets. You should also have your annotation finished for your lyrics.

10/16/17 - 10/20/1710/20/2017 Students and Parents, This week, we covered the following: Tuesday: 1. Students brought in their rough drafts of the Personal Narrative assignment. 2. We had an in-class peer-critique feedback session on the rough drafts. Wednesday: 1. We began a project analyzing song lyrics. The instructions I gave in class are attached below. Thursday: 1. Students continued working on the song lyric analysis project. For the annotation portion of the project, students were directed to copy+paste their lyrics into a Google Document and use the "comments" function in the top right corner to write notes on the song. Students were advised to focus on the specific ways in which the meaning of the song is communicated in the lyrics. 2. For homework, complete the final draft of the Personal Narrative assignment. We will continue with the song lyrics project next week. It is not homework.
10/2/17 - 10/6/1710/6/2017 Students and Parents, This week, we covered the following: Tuesday: 1. We began class with a quickwrite. 2. Students shared their news article assignments with each other and then turned them in. 3. I introduced and explained the Personal Narrative assignment (prompt and organizer attached below). Wednesday: 1. Students began brainstorming and organizing ideas for their Personal Narratives. Thursday: 1. We began class with a quickwrite, and students then turned in their LP 1 quickwrites. 2. Students continued working their Personal Narratives. The rough draft of the narrative is due when we return to school on 10/17.
